Walk 8: Bow Wood via Libbery

4.3 miles / 6.8 km (approx  1½ -1¾  hours)

Map Walk Eight

A lovely walk, combining mixed farmland, good views from the hill North of Libbery and a walk through Bow Wood.  Bow Wood is especially lovely in Spring when the primroses and bluebells are blossoming or Autumn when the leaves are glorious shades of red, gold and yellow.

Bluebells in Bow Wood
  1. From the Village Hall, walk through St. Kenelm’s churchyard, behind the tower, onto Pershore Road (B4082) past the village shop, across the A422 and continue N along the track to the double gates at its end.
  2. Go through the double gates turn R after around 30 metres through a gate and follow the Bridleway along the R edge of two fields towards Libbery.  Turn L at the hedge before the gate in front of Libbery House (old, red-brick house next to the Libbery Lane) and go N along the R edge of the field, over the stile in the corner, then R and through a gate by some barns (Seager’s Buildings).
  3. Turn L onto the track (a Bridleway), go down the slope, past a big pond on the L and up the next slope. (Wonderful views from here on clear days.)  Continue on the track, past a mobile phone mast and along the edge of two fields.
  4. In the second field after the mast, where the track ends, go L along field edge then R over a brook and through a gate.  Go along R of a field and through two sets of gates.  Bear L across a field and through a gate into Bow Wood.  Follow the track as it meanders through the wood, ignoring forks to either side to reach a stile out of the wood into a field.
  5. Go across the field keeping above a small spinney.  Just after the spinney turn R through a gap in the hedge that continues after the trees then immediately L and on to Court Farm, at the far end of the field, just before the main road.  Go straight ahead along the farm track and L on the A422.  Cross the road opposite the The Oak, over the stile and up the hill towards Holy Oak Farm.  Go through the gate and turn L, to a final gate into school the car park and back to the Village Hall.
